Perishia Jones
Perishia Jones, formerly known as Perishia Harris is originally from Navasota, Tx where she made her mark as a young athlete at the local schools. While residing there, Perishia found a love for music and sang in a group called Kids of Praise that consisted of her two older brothers. Though their usual selections consisted of popular Traditional Gospel tunes, Perishia was always inclined to something different. That something she later discovered was contemporary Gospel. In 2005, at the age of 15, Perishia founded a group called Teens in Christ, known presently as the award winning and multi nominated group Unity of Navasota. Prior to being placed on the front line to sing, Jones developed a unique trademark as the group’s drummer (a rare sight in the aforementioned genre).
While gracing various churches with her singing ministry, Jones has also managed to be the recipient of a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. Both are valuable tools that she uses as a middle school Special Education teacher. Of all her offices, she most values being a devoted wife to her producer and engineer Patrick Jones and a loving mother to her son Saint Patrick Jones.
Today she does most of her creative artistry work from College Station, Tx under her husband’s label, Work Son Music. She credits her traveling abroad as the source from which she gleans her creative style and process. Jones says she sings because it soothes her and leads her into the presence of God (a place she loves to be). Though she enjoys singing Traditional Gospel (quartet) particularly alongside Unity of Navasota, Praise and Worship remains her focus and specialization.
Perishia’s artistry style has a mellow and relaxing flair but it can quickly usher you into the presence of God. Perishia has been creating art for 24 years and she has deemed Benita Jones and Tamela Mann as her favorite artists. She connects with her community by Leading worship on Sundays at Fresh Start Ministries Brazos Valley where her parents are the Founding Pastors and singing on weekends with Unity of Navasota. Her work has been shared in over 18 states and two countries with Unity of Navasota and prayerfully, it will continue with her own solo career.
Perishia intends for others to experience how God saved her life and sustained her sanity when she couldn’t even recognize her own identity amidst depression. She wants everyone to know that when they hear her, they are listening to a miracle that was saved by God’s grace! Jones lives by Galatians 6:9 and her favorite thing to tell people is to be “yourself and walk to the beat of your own drum. The sky is definitely not the limit because there are footprints on the moon. Never try to fit in and stop daily to tell the Lord Thank You."
